Billionaires Row – nicknamed 57th Street in midtown Manhattan – has just been crowned a new king.
The tallest tower on the stretch is officially 217 W. 57th St., called Central Park Tower.
A ceremony held Tuesday morning in the concrete shell of a 107th-floor duplex picked up the topping of the condo building, which is 131 stories high and 1,550 feet high.
Barnett, President of Extell, who co-developed Supernumerary with Shanghai Municipal Investment. "It's going to be the best building in New York."
The building's 179 two- to eight-bedroom apartments, which were sold last fall and started on the 32nd floor, start at $ 6.9 million. The most expensive unit currently available is a five-room, 1
Central Park Tower is scheduled to be completed by 2020, when the first closures will take place.
"There are spectacular views of Central Park that everyone wants and wants," Barnett says. "No one is blocking our views. The view is truly epic."
The view is truly panoramic – spanning the Empire State Building, One World Trade Center and Hudson Yards to the south, Hudson River, George Washington Bridge and New Jersey to the west, and LaGuardia and John F. Kennedy airports to the east.
The apartments, ranging in size from 1435 square meters to more than 17,500 square meters, were designed by Rottet Studio.
Residents will have access to what Extell calls "one of the world's most exclusive private clubs. Called Central Park Club, it will consist of 50,000 square feet of amenities for residents, including an outdoor pool terrace, a wellness center with an indoor pool and a ballroom and cigar bar on the 100th floor.
Barnett dropped Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill as architects, after seeing a photo of Dubai's Burj Khalifa building – which they also drew – in an airplane magazine, Barnett said Tuesday. Central Park Tower glass and steel facade cantilevers 300 meters across the street, giving Central Park views of north-facing apartments.
Seven floors at the base of Central Park Tower will house New York's first Nordstrom store, which will open October 24.
The current tallest residential building in New York City (and the world) is 432 Park Ave., which is 1,396 feet high – 154 feet tall from Central Park Tower's elevation.
World One in Mumbai, India, will trump 432 Park when completed, with a planned elevation of 1450 feet. Central Park Tower will also top it.
"We started this project about 15 years ago with assembly" of land, says Barnett. "It's been a long road."
