An Icelandic tourism campaign made fun of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in a video that mocked the social media giant’s name change.

The video contains Zuckerberg-like ‘Zack Mossbergsson’ who introduces ‘Icelandverse’, a parody of Metaverse, as part of a travel campaign for the Inspired by Iceland campaign.

Mossbergsson mimics Zuckerberg’s rigid tone and promotes Iceland.

The video begins with Mossbergsson being introduced as ‘Chief Visionary Officer’, who takes the camera to his camera while wearing Zuckerberg’s black sweater and sporty short-haired haircut.

“Hello and welcome to this very natural setting,” he says. “Today I want to talk about a revolutionary approach to connecting the world without being super weird.”

“Someone said it was not possible. Someone said it was out of reach. To them we say it is already here. Seriously. See, it’s right here, adds Zuckerberg-look-alike as he shows Iceland’s landscape from his window.

Mossbergsson then introduces the name of this ‘product’ which he calls ‘Icelandverse’ which is an ‘enhanced actual reality without stupid headsets.’

“In our open world experience, everything is real,” he says as he gropes to open a locked glass door.

“And it has been for millions of years,” he adds, folding his arms awkwardly in silence.

He is also seen wearing a full face of sunscreen as he goes to a heated pool, spotting an embarrassing incident for Zuckerberg last summer when he was captured by windsurfing in Hawaii with his face completely caked.

The video continues to advertise the landscape in a humorous way that describes, it is a place where ‘the water is wet’ and with ‘sky you can see with your own eyeballs’ as well as various waterfalls ‘you can stand nearby’.

“The Icelandic verse is a world with possibilities so endless that they will be here forever,” says Mossbergsson.

“So join us today … or tomorrow … or anytime … we are very sociable,” he adds.

The Zuckerberg impersonator signs the video with “now, enjoy our logo” which shows the Islandverse symbol, which is similar to Meta one.

The two-minute clip has gone viral since it was posted on Thursday, and has received 2.5 million likes on Twitter.

Comments, including Zuckerberg, rejoiced at the eerie comparison between the two videos.

‘Fantastic. I have to take a trip to Icelandverse soon, Zuckerberg said.

“Glad you use sunscreen too,” he added, mocking the reference in the video.

“Oh hey Mark!”, Inspired by Iceland replied. ‘You are always welcome. Icelandverse is open 24/7. ‘

‘Metaverset’ is a science fiction concept referred to as a futuristic method of accessing the Internet designed to create a virtual and augmented reality.

This new development is part of Zuckerberg’s rebranding plan after he renamed Facebook Meta in October.

The new concept has received a mixed reception from the public with several notable people such as Twitter boss Jack Dorsey mocking the idea.

Zuckerberg said during the pitch that he wanted Meta to be ‘metavers first, not Facebook first’ with the hope of gaining one billion users within the first ten years after launch.

Well-known companies such as Nike have also signed the metaverse agreement as they plan to sell virtual sneakers that are only available on digital settings.
