Billions Marc Benioff donates $ 30 million to investigate homelessness
The school announced the creation of UCSF Benioff homelessness and housing initiatives on Wednesday.
Born and raised in San Francisco and now Managing Director of the city's largest employer, Benioff has been active lately.
"Homelessness is not just a Bay Area problem – it affects every community in California. Our entire state and nation has a lot to gain from this work," says California Gov. Gavin Newsom in a statement.
"Marc and Lynne have been leaders in this room, and this generous investment will help burn the search for solutions and further develop best practices to help those who are homeless, improve their lives."
"Rising house costs and different income lead to more people, including families and older adults, entering the homeless for the first time," said UCSF in a statement.
Margot Kushel, Professor of Medicine at UCSF and Director of UCSF Center for vulnerable populations, will lead the initiative.
"There is no medicine as powerful as housing. But the problem is complex, says Kushel in a statement. "We know a lot about how to end homelessness, but that knowledge does not always reach policemen and is often not properly targeted. We have far more to learn about designing the most effective ways to prevent and end homelessness."
