Berkshire Hathaway has bought shares in Amazon. But Warren Buffett is not the one behind the purchase.
"One of the friends in the office who manages money … bought some Amazon, so it will appear in 13F" later this month, Buffett told CNBC on Thursday, on the threshold of Berkshire's annual Omaha shareholder meeting. Buffett referred to either Todd Combs or Ted Weschler, each managing portfolios of over $ 13 billion in Berkshire shares.
Buffett has long been a fan of both Amazon and its CEO Jeff Bezos, and commends the company's dominance and founder's business ability. But while Buffett has sung the company's praise, he has never bought Amazon shares. So a headline like Berkshire bought stocks would probably interest the markets.
"Yes, I've been a fan and I've been an idiot for not buying" Amazon shares, Buffett said. "But I want you to know that there are no personality changes going on."
