Greetings from Chicago! Coming to you from my childhood home with my 15 year old dog Hobie in my lap. I think this column needs a mascot so he is the one official beat dog (eat your heart out of ugly pet). Since I'm in Chicago, I might as well start with this with some exciting Chicago news …
Lori Lightfoot takes over the Mayor's office today : She is now officially the first gay color to run a big city and tasked with rebuilding public confidence in the city council after a rocky tenure with now ex-mayor Rahm Emanuel, she has expanded her administration over the past two months since the election, but has held many Emanuel-era administrators at least for the short term. as a political outsider, but now some of the problems of being an outsider solve, first and foremost, build relationships with the established urban politicians.
Speech on city government elections : Seattle has our official list of 56 city council candidates. And what a crowded field it is! Not quite as crowded as the democratic president's nominees, but you know, quite crowded. The Stranger kicks our selection coverage to high equipment, but in the meantime, at least you can do to find out who the district's candidates are. What, you don't know which district you're in? Come on! This Crosscut graphic can be a good resource for you.
Orcas wants us to stop making such a god shield : If you haven't read "Hostile Waters", Seattle Times incredible series on orcas, then boys, oh boy Have a treat for you. They have just published an agreement on noise and how we make way to much of it in orca habitats. I don't know if you've ever opened your eyes in Puget Sound, but you can't see shit. Orcas uses sound to find his prey. But human activities have turned Puget Sound into an underwater version of STOMP, which prevents orcas from successfully finding the few chinook salmon still around.
Vashon Island has long been a poster child for unvaccinated children : My roommate grew up on Vashon Island, and I make vaccine jokes almost every single day (don't worry, he has all his shots), but we can't get Make those jokes much longer (a good thing). A combination of community information organization, national media attention, and the recently approved state bill that eliminates personal exemptions for the measles vaccine, has significantly increased the island's vaccine. It is still one of the least-vaccinated communities in the country, but they have increased to 74% of kindergartens that have their state-run vaccines. Get jokes in while you still can!
Dear NWS Social Media person : You do a good job. Not only do you mostly add accurate weather for today and tomorrow, you give a pretty little picture to follow it. Your work is seen and appreciated.
Expect increasing showers today with altitudes slightly below normal. Some sleep showers will continue into Tuesday before drier and warmer weather returns midweek. #WAwx pic.twitter.com/91CQRosKiW

FCC for okay merger between T -Mobil and Sprint : T-Mobile promised to roll out a nationwide 5G network soon after the merger if it went through and the FCC chairman was all for it. This $ 26 billion merger would be the biggest telecommunications deal for over a decade, giving T-Mobile a large share of the US market. But T-Mobile doesn't go completely free, they have annual references on how much 5G they roll out to keep the FCC happy.
Play of Thrones is officially over : And the world has some thoughts on how eight seasons of dramatic genius ended with such a nap. You don't have to look far for warmth, every person with a Twitter handle writes a scathing screed about any aspect of the final. I didn't mind it too much, but the authors went way too far with it all, "the show doesn't tell" the mantra of visual storytelling. I'm too little good mise a scene, but half of the damn episode was characters that slowly go through intricate sets, silently reacting to things. Look at it again and be aware of how damn SLOW everyone goes everywhere, it's annoying. George R.R. Martin had enough time to complete the last book in the dramatic breaks. Tyrion took between lines. And then I quit my petty, spoiler-free review.
Trump knocks out in Iran and they fight back : So last Friday I tried to give Trump the benefits of the doubts in response to a report from the New York Times that he told security officers he would not go to war Iran, so this weekend he went completely into Twitter-strong man and sent out terrible threats to the Middle East. Iran responded to Twitter, the only language our president speaks, says: "Economic terrorism and genocide will not end Iran. "" Someone stops this.
If Iran will fight, it will be the official end of Iran. Never threatened the US again!

Ebola outbreaks worsen as military attacks on clinics and doctors increase : The Democratic Republic Congo experiences the second largest Ebola outbreak in history, the second only to the outbreak in West Africa, started in 2013. At least 1100 people have died so far, although auxiliary groups believe the figure underestimates death toll. It is difficult enough for local medical workers and international aid groups to fight one of the most devastating viruses on our planet without the added complication of dozens of armed militia groups who often attack clinics. Public confidence in the government and state military is extremely low, causing people to become suspicious of public medical services. There are even rumors that the government introduced Ebola to certain parts of the country to kill the people of these regions.
Washington is a magical place where Disney movies come to life :
REAL-LIFE BAMBI: A resident of Washington captured a deer and rabbit who shared a tender moment in her mother's garden and reminded her Bambi and Thumper. https://t.co/7zHuWoPNWj pic.twitter.com/YaJDYU1qFB
