AT&T becomes the first major wireless company to automatically block spam calls

AT & T on Tuesday announced plans to automatically block false phone calls and become the first major wireless company by default, according to CNN.

The vacant service comes one month after the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voted to allow phone operators to block suspicious calls by default to strengthen industry efforts to filter out robocals and scammers.

The company said in a statement to CNN Wednesday that the FCC's "last action is based on an annual effort to enable wider adoption of dial-up tools and allow providers to better protect their customers and networks." AT&T owns WarnerMedia, the parent company of CNN.

"AT & T is still committed to working with our government and industry partners in the ongoing struggle against unwanted and illegal robokals," the company added.

Prior to the decision, AT&T gave its customers the opportunity to choose a service that atte mpts to block spam phone calls. But with the company's decision this week, customers will automatically subscribe to the call interrupt service with the choice of choosing.

Other operators offer similar options to block junk calls, but AT & T is so far the only provider to block calls by default.

The announcement also comes at the height of the law that the Senate voted for in May, which would charge huge new fines for illegal robocols, and promoted one of the most prominent congressional efforts to break down thousands of unwanted conversations that worsen US consumers each year .
