At $34,900, Is This 2006 Hummer H2 SUT A Truck Worth Dealing With?

While the new GMC Hummer may be the biggest and most over-the-top electric truck on the planet, today’s is Nice price or no dice gas engine H2 is more traditional and costs a third of the price. Let’s see if it’s cheap enough.

There are two types of people in the world – those who enjoy driving convertibles and those who have had the joy of life sucked out of them through a terrible experience. Some of the latter also enjoy driving the convertible, just not to the level they should.

The point is that almost everyone likes (or should like) driving a convertible, and last Friday 1974 Fiat Sport Spider emerged as a classic convertible with a lot to offer. At $6,500, it wasn’t that expensive either, a fact made clear by the amazing 91 percent Nice Price vote the car received.

Speaking of liking, you are the type of person who likes idea of a pickup, but not quite ready to jump into the whole hog category? Then I have a pickup for you.

This 2006 Hummer H2 SUT (Sport Utility Truck) is technically a pickup truck. After all, it has a bed in the back which is accessible via a rear hatch that folds down in the usual way. It even looks like a pickup truck. Or perhaps as a three-box sedan version of public housing. Anyway, the bed on the H2 SUT is only approx. 35-inches long, with a width of just over 47 inches, so it’s not going to drive around on anything a traditional pickup maybe. No plywood for the workplace or motorcycles for the woods for this pickup. A mid-gate between the cabin and the bed gives extra space, but it’s not the same as a normal pickup. That limitation sort of takes the benefit out of the name.

With a curb weight of over 6,600 pounds, the H2 isn’t that crazy in the corners either, so we can probably also decline the Sport designation. That leaves only Truck as the only truthful part of the SUT name, and since the H2 is based on the GMT820 three-quarter ton truck frame, it fulfills that part in spades. That alone has apparently earned these strange trucks a solid following.

This SUT also has a number of updates and refurbishments. The seller notes $15,000 in repairs just completed, including replacing wear items and a major body and trim cleanup. The ad also says that the truck is PUFFY, which I have to admit is new to me. The full statement reads:

This NEVER SEEN ❄️ WINTER ???? 2006 Hummer H2 SUT w/ 131,112 mi. am ready for a new one ???? and to say it is PUFFY is under recording, is the current destination! ???? – THERE IS NOT A GENUINE MKT COMP FOR THIS H2 FOR SALE ANYWHERE IN THE USA RIGHT NOW – MARK THE WORD! ????

The rest of the ad is a little easier to follow and tells us the truck comes with a clean title and 131,112 miles on the ticker. These originally came with beige upholstered cabins, but the seller (who is the fifth owner!) claims they swapped that for the more upmarket black leather interior. The exterior remains factory pewter and has received a large number of small door holes that have been smoothed out by a paintless bulk removal service. It all appears to be in good shape both above board and below, including its huge aftermarket alloys.

Just like all H2 SUTs, this one gets its marching orders from a 6.0-liter Vortec V8 that makes 325 horsepower and 365 lb-ft of torque. It is matched with a 4L65-E four-speed automatic and an all-wheel-drive system that offers a couple of different traction scenarios. Combined, that gives the truck about 10 mpg around town and nearly 13 on the open highway. YMMV.

As I mentioned, these Hummers still have a pretty solid fan club, and the latest electric reimagining of the brand is only going to expand that. Maybe now is the time to get on board before the train leaves the station. The question, however, is whether this H2 SUT is worth the $34,900 ticket price.

What do you think? Sshould anyone pay that kind of cash for this SUT that is short on the first two promises? Or is that just too much even for an otherwise over the top truck?

You decide!
