Apple workers in the Maryland store are voting to become a union, a first for the United States

June 18 (Reuters) – Apple Inc (AAPL.O) workers in Maryland voted Saturday to join a union, becoming the first retail giant in the tech giant to be organized in the United States.

More than 100 workers in Towson near Baltimore “have overwhelmingly voted to join the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers,”[ads1]; the union said on its website.

The local workers, who form the Coalition of Organized Retail Employees, “have the support of a solid majority of our employees,” they wrote in a letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook.

Atlanta workers in Atlanta who sought to organize withdrew their request last month and made threats.

Last year, some current and former Apple employees began criticizing the company’s working conditions online, using the hashtag #AppleToo.
