In October 2018, American Express® Gold Card was updated and introduced a more rewarding point structure than ever before.

Basics of Amex Gold Card

The card has an annual fee of $ 250 (pricing and fees), but has offered the following ROI:

  • 4x membership wages point to US restaurants
  • 4x membership wages point to US supermarkets , up to $ 25,000 in annual purchases
  • 3x membership fees on flights booked directly with airlines or through amextravel.com

On top of that, to offset the annual fee, the card has offered up to $ 220 in annual credits, including: [1[ads1]9659005] Dinner Credits of $ 120, which gives enrolled members up to $ 10 per month in statement credits when using their card at a qualified dining room at artists, including Shake Shack, The Cheesecake Factory, Ruth's Chris Steak House and Grubhub / Seamless

  • A $ 100 flight fee credit every calendar year
  • Amex Gold Card improved dining bonus category

The way I see it, one of d major disadvantages of Amex Gold Card has been that the 4x point category on serving is limited to American restaurants. It is quite restrictive, as it is likely that the card is also aimed at many people who travel fairly.

So Amex makes an improvement in this regard. From June 6, 2019, the Amex Gold Card will offer 4x points on restaurants globally . This is a wonderful change that will make this card much more lucrative for those who travel quite a bit.

There are still two issues with this, but:

    • Amex does not have almost global approval of Mastercard or Visa for restaurants outside of the United States
    • Amex has had problems with restaurants that are properly coded, so many have not found earning bonus points at restaurants

    Bottom line

Amex Gold Card is already one of the best credit cards for dining, and this makes it even more lucrative. I never really understood why Amex limited many of its bonus categories to just the US, as it doesn't really reflect the growing trend of credit card acceptance that is improving globally.

Personally, I still use Citi Prestige for my dining purchases, which it offers 5x points globally, but this Amex bonus category is also very good.

If you have the Amex Gold Card, are you thrilled with this change?
