In a blog post on the Medium.com website, Bezos revealed what he was saying by "extortion and extortion" by publishing a series of e-mails he says were exchanged by his and AMI's lawyers.
"I was made an offer I couldn't refuse," wrote Bezos. "Or that was what the supreme people of the National Enquirer believed. I'm glad they believed it because it emboldened them to say everything in order. ”
The dispute and the extraordinary release of an agreement apparently suggested by AMI, stemmed from the publication last month of National Enquirer of a story about Bezos and an extramarital affair with former TV anchor Lauren Sanchez.
Bezos commissioned his team of private investigators, led by security consultant Gavin de Becker, to find out how the National Enquirer had achieved intimate texts between himself and Sanchez.
In an e-mail allegedly by AMI Chief Content Officer Dylan Howard, he writes to a De Becker lawyer that the Company achieved "under our news collection" several other unpublished selfie images of Bezos and Sanchez in sexually suggestive settings.
"… [In] the interests to expand this situation, and with the Washington Post to publish pristine rumors of the National Enquirer's first report, I would describe to you the image that was obtained during our news collection." Howard is quoting as said.
Having described the pictures in detail, Howard concludes, "It wouldn't give any editorial to send this email. I hope common sense can win – and quickly."
Bezos wrote that AMI intends to publish the personal photos "unless Gavin de Becker and I make the special fake public statement to the press that we do not have the knowledge or basis to suggest that AMI's coverage was politically motivated or influenced by political forces. & # 39; "
In another alleged email, AMI assistant advisor Jon Fine does not accept to publish or distribute the materials and keep the agreement secret. But he also threatens to publish the photos if Bezos and his staff break the deal.
In his blog post, Bezos wrote that he is not playing together.
How to describe Bezos AMI's suggestion:
"Be sure you, No real journalists suggest anything like what happens here: I will not report embarrassing information about you if you do X for me. And if you do not do X quickly, I will report the embarrassing information . "
Howard and Fine did not respond to email inquiries for comments.
"These communications cement AMI's long-standing reputation for weapons of journalistic privileges, hide behind key protections and ignore the principles and purpose of true journalism" Bezos wrote in his blog post. "Of course, I do not want to have personal photos published, but I would rather not participate in their well-known practice of extortion, political favors, political attacks and corruption. I prefer to get up, roll over this log and see what crawls out."
