About 12,000 statewide still without power from storm with high winds, hail




MICHIGAN – Consumer Energy reports 12,000 customers without power supply early Sunday after strong storms, bringing hail, lightning, and strong winds to some areas of Michigan.

The hardest hit areas of Allegan County, Barry County and Battle Creek.

In the Battle Creek area, many residents reported large hail. In some cases, the shotgun was almost as big as golf balls.

Many wrote pictures of the hail on social media.

In Kent County, the fire brigade replied to several reports of structure affected by lightning. At least one, in the late afternoon, caused a significant fire when the lightning apparently struck a house gas meter in the Ada Township.

According to consumers Energy, many of the power outages happened around 8 o'clock Saturday, June 2.
