A Google Bus Killed a Pedestrian in Mountain View: Police
A Google employee, Emily Hong, was struck and killed by a vehicle in Mountain View, California, Monday evening, according to local authorities. As police released details about the incident on Tuesday, they revealed that the vehicle involved in the incident was one of Google's own shuttle buses.
According to a police press release, the incident occurred around 6:45 pm Monday, at the intersection of Charleston Road and Huff Avenue, directly across from the Googleplex campus. Attempts to administer CPR to Hong on-scene were unsuccessful, police said. Initially the woman's identity was not disclosed by police, but reached for comment by Gizmodo, Google spokeswoman Gina Scigliano provided the following statement:
We are devastated to learn of the tragic passing of a member of our Googler family. On Monday night, our colleague Emily Hong passed away after being hit by a shuttle bus on our Mountain View campus. Emily worked in the finance organization and was beloved by her colleagues ̵[ads1]1; she brought an incredible kick to Google. She was inquisitive, creative, analytical, positive, generous and kind – our deepest condolences are with her family and friends.
Authorities gave no indication about the condition of the Google bus driver, but believe drugs or alcohol were not a factor, and the investigation remains ongoing.
