5 things to know this weekend

Daylight saving time 2019 ends Sunday

Daylight saving time ends on Sunday at 2 pm – which is the official hour to reset all our clocks to standard time. But most of us will probably "fall back" before we go to bed Saturday night. That is unless you live in the states of Arizona (except the Navajo Nation) or Hawaii. Or the American areas of American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, which also do not monitor daylight saving time. To clear the record, the change of time was never about the peasants.

Crews fight for the latest stubborn Southern California fire

Firefighters will work to fight the last remaining big fire in Southern California this weekend. The Maria fire, which burned near Ventura County's Santa Paula community, prompted evacuation orders for nearly 1

1,000 people, according to the Associated Press. The relatively small losses in the home – the Maria fire destroyed at least three homes – contrast with the hundreds who perished in the fires of the past. One of the main reasons? Officials say Southern California was prepared for the round with big winds. Red flag weather forecasts for extreme fire danger were expected to expire Friday night, but forecasts extended them to 2 p.m. Saturday for valleys and inner mountains in the counties of Ventura and Los Angeles, citing the withered conditions.

Poor timing: Stephen Strasburg's deadline to opt out is just before the World Series parade

If World Series MVP Stephen Strasburg chooses his contract, as expected, it must be by Saturday – two hours before the Washington Nationals & # 39; championship parade starts in the nation's capital, according to MLB.com. The deadline was set more than three years ago when Strasburg's contract extension was negotiated. Given the unique nature of the situation, it's likely that the two sides agree to push the deadline back, says MLB.com. Strasburg owes $ 100 million over the last four years of the deal, as part of the seven-year, $ 175 million pact he signed in 2016. He can also opt out after the 2020 season.

Prince Harry goes to Japan for the first time for an official visit

Prince Harry plans to visit Japan on Saturday for the Rugby World Cup Final in 2019 between England and South Africa. This will be Duke of Sussex's first official visit to the country. Harry's visit will include more than just watching the game. Upon arrival, he will visit a custom-built gym for para-sports and spend the afternoon with Japanese Paralympic hopefuls. He is scheduled to return to England on Sunday.

Popeyes' chicken sandwich is back for National Sandwich Day

Sunday is National Sandwich Day, delicious enough on its own – and it's also the day Popeyes brings back his so-popular-the-sold-out Chicken sandwiches. Almost immediately after the Popeyes began selling sandwiches in August, reports began circulating that New Orleans-style fried chicken on a bowl was sold out in some places, leading to long waits. Then, a week after the launch, Popeyes started a viral Twitter feud with Chick-fil-A and other restaurants, and the battle lines were drawn over which chicken chain had better sandwiches. What else is important about the time of Popeye's launch this weekend? Sunday is also a day Chick-fil-A is closed, something it apparently forgot when it promoted National Sandwich Day. That's another point for Popeyes.
