48 people catch covid-19 aboard the Royal Caribbean cruise

Four dozen people aboard a Royal Caribbean cruise ship tested positive for coronavirus when they returned to Miami on Saturday after a seven-day excursion, a report said.

All but one of those infected at Symphony of the Seas were fully vaccinated, the cruise line said in a statement, and all patients were quarantined after the positive results, NBC Miami reported.

“Everyone who tested positive was asymptomatic or had mild symptoms, and we continuously monitored their health,” Royal Caribbean said in a statement to the outlet.

The ship had 6091 passengers and set sail on 11 December. Ninety-five percent of everyone on board ̵[ads1]1; including guests and crew members – was fully vaccinated.

Royal Caribbean said that all crew members are fully vaccinated and that the cruise line requires that guests over the age of 12 are also completely inoculated.

Unvaccinated children under the age of 12 must achieve two negative test results before boarding.
