28 passengers and two crew members were evaluated on the scene for harmless damage just before 6 o'clock Ten people were taken to the hospital. Some passengers hit the head of the plane.
Passengers say heart-paced turbulence lasted about six minutes. When it was over, every second row had some either injured or bleeding. Officials say severe turbulence caused bruises, cuts, broken bones and gashes on some passengers' heads.
An apparent airline crew member was seen out of the terminal with a bandage around the leg.
Several young children also needed medical help.
The plane with 326 passengers on board was over Maine when it happened.
The National Weather Service had issued turbulence advice, but no one expected this.

Turkish Airlines confirms that TK01 Istanbul – New York Flight faced an unusual turbulence about 40 minutes before landing at New York JFK Airport. The Boeing 777-type aircraft, which had departed from Istanbul with 326 passengers and 18 crews, landed safely at the airport at. 5.35 Saturday after experiencing the turbulence. 28 passengers on board and 2 cabin crews, who had experienced fatal injuries, were taken to the hospital at the aircraft's landing, for their overall control.
