2020 Mercedes GLE 350th unveiled with plug-in hybrid diesel

The updated GLC 350e is not the only hybrid Mercedes to reveal in front of the Frankfurt Motor Show, as the Daimler company also takes the virtual packages from the larger GLE 350de. It is an interesting proposition in the mid-size premium SUV segment in Europe due to the nature of the powertrain, as it uses a turbocharged diesel engine that has the shape of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit.

The internal combustion engine produces 194 horsepower and works with an electric motor rated at 136 hp. With the two joining forces, the electrified GLE offers a combined performance of 320 hp and a good torque of 516 pounds. The beefy PHEV setup provides the GLE 350th with a 62 km / h sprint in just 6.8 seconds en route to a top speed of 21[ads1]0 km / h if ICE is used or 100 km / h (160 km / h) when using it only electric motor.

Thanks to a rather large 31.2-kWh battery pack, the electrified SUV will make 99 kilometers (61.5 miles) runs solely on electrical energy based on the WLTP cycle. On the back, the batteries in the available trunk eat, and the load capacity drops from 2,055 liters (72.5 cubic feet) to 1,915 liters (67.6 liters) with the seats folded. It is a compromise that is worth noting, given that the loss is not so significant.

When the battery is empty, it will only take 20 minutes to charge it from 10% to 80% or 30 minutes from 10% to 100% using a DC charging station. From a wall socket it takes 90 minutes for full charging, while from a conventional outlet it takes about five hours. There will be a 7.4 kW onboard charger and regenerative braking to juice up the battery while on the move. If you plan to do a lot of towing, Mercedes says its diesel-electric GLE will be able to haul up to 3,500 pounds (7,716 pounds).

The GLE 350de is part of Mercedes & # 39; PHEV attacks, with more than ten plug-in hybrids to be available by the end of the year. This figure will more than double by the end of 2020. Meanwhile, the two new electrified SUVs will be on display later this week at the Frankfurt Motor Show, where we will also see the release Vision EQ S concept.
