An article from Esquire could have played the entire prayers, including a 495 horsepower V8.
Three years ago, we caught our first blurred glimpse of an early C8 Corvette prototype, heavily covered in camouflage. Now comes the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray covers a little early. An article from Esquire magazine was published briefly and retrieved at Apple News, revealing the end product and some key figures. While the article has been taken down, we were able to grab the information before it disappeared. It's still technically unofficial, but this seems to be the middle Corvette we've been waiting for.
First up, the engine. According to leaked info from Esquire there is a 6.2 liter V8 powered LT2 as we expected, and developed an impressive 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. Equipped with the Z51 Performance Package, this car is expected to turn 60 km / h in less than three seconds. This is the basic model of Corvette, and if you want a comparison, the current 755-hk C7 ZR1 does the same sprint in 2.8 seconds. It's not a bad way to introduce a whole new platform.
There are some bad news for your row-wanted enthusiasts, though. As expected, there is no manual transmission, at least for right now. A new 8-speed dual-clutch automatically handles the shift, although nifty paddle shifters behind the wheel allow drivers to switch gears as desired. Considering the impressive zero-to-60s, the swapping swap needs to be done much faster than the best wooden pedal pros can handle.
Since we are concerned about performance, some things are familiar with Corvette's long-time followers. The leak mentions an optional Z51 performance package that includes upgraded brakes, cooling and an exhaust system so you can hear V8 do it. Unfortunately, we have no information on electronic tools that can further improve performance. for that we have to wait for further official information.
The leak is talking about some of C8's aesthetics. Corvette fans would like to know that the removable roof option is still there, and for those who like highways, there are two storage areas. A fringe on the Stingray nose is said to carry a couple of small bags, while a larger loading area on the back can fit a pair of golf club bags. When it comes to colors, no less than 12 shades appear to be available, including old favorites and three new options: Rapid Blue, Zeus Bronze, and Accelerate Yellow.
Last but not least, this leak says an estimated price and honestly, this is where we wonder if the information is legitimate. It is listed as an estimate, but this new C8 Stingray can be priced in the $ 70,000 series, according to Esquire . If this car is able to hit 60 km / h in under three seconds, the C8 Corvette can very well be the super deal during the decade.
The official debut takes place at 08:00 Pacific time / 11:00 PM Eastern. We can confirm this information and hopefully have much more to bring with you then.
